Most cities, counties, towns, and villages require forms, permits and applications for a variety of work. Examples include special events, public records, animal control complaints, road excavation or barricades, you will want to ensure the proper paperwork is successfully completed, submitted, and approved.
Planning and Zoning related permits and applications are required before certain property changes and uses can go forward — whether it’s demolishing an old building or constructing a new one. We all depend on local government to regulate these activities to protect us from property-related disasters. Flooded basements or fire from electrical shorts are examples, as well as building collapses due to structural failure. Permits protect your family, your home, and help prevent mistakes. When you take out a permit, you are paying to have a certified inspector come out and ensure that work is done safely and to code.
Please note, there is a fee for some permits and applications. The Village does not accept credit cards over the phone. We accept cash, check, or credit (all except American Express) in person.
PUBLIC NOTICE REQUIREMENTS: For applications that are administratively approved by the Planning & Zoning Director or are heard at a public hearing before the Planning & Zoning Commission or Board of Trustees.
Appeal Form of a P & Z Determination; Resolution No. 2007-4-2 (Rules for Appeals); Resolution No. 2012-1-3 (Fees); Ordinance No. 258 (Appeals)

If you have questions or concerns about possible or current film activities in the Village, please contact the Village here or call us at 505-344-6582.
For Productions
Refer to Film Guidelines for more information.
Pre-Application Meeting:
As part of the permit process, the Village requires a Pre-Application meeting. This should answer the bulk of your questions as we review:
Zoning - commercial vs. residential for hours of production (for properties zoned SU-1 or SU Permits in particular)
Special Exemptions (nighttime filming, excessive noise, etc.)
Public Notice Boundary
Notification Letter
Village Barricade Permit
You are encouraged to schedule a Pre-Application meeting with Village Staff well in advance of filming. Incomplete applications will not be accepted and permit application approval may take three to five working days. There is no rush permit process.
Zoning:
The zone of the property will affect allowed hours of production. See the Village Zone Map for zoning. The Planning & Zoning Department can also identify a property’s zoning (505-344-6582).
Neighborhood Covenants:
Neighborhood covenants may exist for some residential properties. The Village does not enforce neighborhood covenants and does not take responsibility for information on or enforcement of neighborhood covenants. It is the responsibility of the applicant to identify any neighborhood covenants and ensure their activities comply with any neighborhood covenants.
Cancellation:
It is the sole responsibility of the production company to notify the Village and any law enforcement or emergency services departments. There is no form required to cancel. Cancellation of an approved permit will be refunded, prorated for the remaining days the permit is approved for. It is the production company’s responsibility to confirm receipt and approval of a cancellation request.

For Residents
I received a letter, what should I do?
Film productions deliver two types of letters, notice and signature.
If you received a notice letter, you’re being informed of the activity listed and if you have questions you can contact anyone listed on the letter.
If you received a signature letter, you’re being asked if you have any concerns about what the film production is proposing to do. This is required by the Village for activities that require “special exemption,” such as loud noises, filming at night, or bright lights at night, which are more likely to impact neighbors. Please fill out the signature page and call the contacts on the letter to have them pick it up.
I have questions about filming near me
If you didn’t receive a notice, that means you’re outside 300’ from the filming location. If you have questions, please contact the Planning & Zoning Department or call us at 505-344-6582.
I am interested in having filming at my property
Filming During COVID-19
Productions must adhere to several guideline documents in order to safely film, including the Governor’s Executive and Public Health Orders, COVID Safe Practices for Employers, and New Mexico Film Office’s Back2One, which has requirements and additional recommendations specifically for film productions to operate. Visit nmfilm.com/covid-19-safe-practices to find out more.
